EUPLAN Conference 2018

Join us in Brugge: mark your diary for the 4th EUPLAN Conference 2018!

Plan to attend the 4th EUPLAN CONFERENCE in Brugge, Belgium 19-21 September 2018. Both engaging and insightful, the 4th meeting of the European Platelet Network (EUPLAN 2018) is an excellent and affordable scientific event. EUPLAN aims to provide the latest update on platelets in their diverse functions, by bringing together platelet specialists and young researchers from the whole continent.

Platelets in thrombosis and beyond
Platelets are best known for their role in hemostasis where they restrict bleeding  However, platelets also are the cellular mediator of arterial thrombosis, leading to myocardial infarction and stroke, representing the most common causes of mortality and morbidity in the western world. Major efforts are continuously undertaken to understand platelet formation and clearance and activation and inhibition mechanisms that finally might lead to the development of new antiplatelet drugs that would meet the most sought-after requirement: to inhibit the platelet contribution to thrombosis without increasing bleeding.

Highly interesting, more and more attention lately is being given to the role of platelets in other situations such as in embryogenesis, in malignancy or as immune cells that initiate and accelerate many vascular inflammatory conditions, including atherosclerosis, malaria infection, transplant rejection and rheumatoid arthritis.
